Drug Uses

Levitra Super Active are soft gelatine capsules for oral use, which are used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

How to Use

The recommended starting dose of Levitra Super Active is 10 mg, taken on demand, approximately 2 minutes before sexual activity. In clinical trials, Levitra Super Active has been shown to be effective when taken up to 4-5 hours before sexual activity.

Levitra Super Active can be taken with or without food. Sexual stimulation is necessary for a natural response to treatment.

For patients, who are older than 65 years, Levitra Super Active clearance is reduced. A starting dose of 5 mg should be considered for patients.

Levitra Super Active is not indicated for use in children.

Drugs and Class Mechanism

The erection of the penis is a hemodynamic process based on the relaxation of the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum and its associated arterioles. During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide (NO) is released from nerve endings in the corpus cavernosum, which activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, resulting in an increased level of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. This in turn relaxes the smooth muscle, allowing a greater influx of blood to the penis.

By inhibiting PDE5, the enzyme responsible for the degradation of cGMP in the cavemosum corpus, Levitra Super Active potently increases the effect of endogenous NO, released locally in the corpora cavernosa upon sexual stimulation.

Levitra Super Active therefore enhances the natural response to sexual stimulation.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Levitra Super Active, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

Store Levitra Super Active at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Keep away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Levitra Super Active out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Warnings and Cautions

Levitra Super Active has vasodilator properties that can result in a slight and transient decrease in blood pressure. Patients with left ventricular outlet obstruction, for example, aortic stenosis or idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, may be sensitive to the action of vasodilators such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors.

In men, for whom sexual activity is not recommended due to their underlying cardiovascular status, agents for the treatment of erectile dysfunction should not be used.

In a study of the effect of Levitra Super Active on the QT interval in 59 healthy men, therapeutic (10 mg) and supratherapeutic (80 mg) doses of Levitra Super Active produced an increase in the QTc interval. This observation should be considered in clinical decisions on the prescription of Levitra Super Active. Patients with congenital prolongation of the QT interval (long QT syndrome) and those taking class IA (eg quinidine, procainamide) or class III (eg amiodarone, sotalol) antiarrhythmic drugs should avoid the use of Levitra Super Active.

Drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in general should be used with caution in patients with anatomical deformations of the penis (such as angulation, cavernous fibrosis, or Peyronie’s disease) or in patients with diseases that may predispose to priapism (such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia).

Possible side effects

Even the highest dose tested (80 mg per day) was tolerated by the senes without producing adverse side effects. This was confirmed in a study with a dose of 40 mg once a day for 4 weeks. When 40 mg was administered twice a day, cases of severe back pain were observed. No neurological or muscle toxicity was identified, however.

In cases of overdose, supportive measures must be adopted. Kidney dialysis is not expected to accelerate clearance as Levitra Super Active binds to plasma proteins and is not significantly eliminated in the urine.
